Atorvastatin – How to Take

 

Atorvastatin should only be taken as directed by your doctor or medical professional and following the Atorvastatin information leaflet which contains information regarding side effects that may be experienced.  Take the prescribed dose of the tablets with water and can be taken at any time of day, with or without food, although it is generally taken in the evening with a meal or before going to bed. It is advised to take the tablet at the same time every day.

 

Whilst taking the medication cholesterol levels should be monitored regularly and if you experience any changes to your health please inform your doctor. As with any medication when taking Atorvastatin some people can suffer side effects as detailed in the Atorvastatin information leaflet if you experience any side effects consult your doctor as soon as possible

Potential Side Effects

As with all medication, Atorvastatin has had some reported side effects.

Ensure you do not suffer from allergies related to any of the ingredients. If any signs of reaction are noted, for example: a rash, hives, difficulty in breathing, swollen face, tongue, throat, or lips, seek medical treatment immediately.

Patients with a history of kidney problems should take note as  Astrovastatine could  lead to kidney failure as well as skeletal muscle tissue breakdown. They should look out for signs of decreased urination, difficulty urinating, shortness of breath or swelling ankles and feet. Patients with liver disorders also need to exercise caution and watch for any signs of stomach pains, nausea, loss of appetite, jaundice, and tiredness. Again, if any of these symptoms present, the patients should seek immediate medical attention.
