The active ingredient sumatriptan works on serotonin (or 5HT) receptors that are found on blood vessels in the brain this will cause the blood vessels to narrow so working to relieve headaches and the other symptoms associated with migraine such as nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and sounds.

Migraine is a common health condition which can include  moderate or severe headaches felt as a throbbing pain on one side of the head and the other associated symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and sounds. Migraines affect approximately 20% of women and 7% of men.
