Modafinil how does it work
Modafinil is a wakefulness-promoting agent that acts as a weak and selective atypical dopamine reuptake inhibitor, acting similarly classified drugs. Although there has been extensive research into the interaction of Modafinil with numerous neurotransmitter systems, the precise mechanisms and workings of the drug remain partially unclear.
Due to risks of developing hypersensitivity reactions and neuropsychiatric disorders the European Medicines Agency recommend that the prescription of this drug is restricted to patients who suffer with narcolepsy.

History of Modafinil:
The primary developer of the drug was Michel Jouvet, an Emeritus Professor of Experimental Medicine and Neurophysiologist and the history of Modafinil begins in the late 1970s in Lafon Laboratories in France with the invention of benzhydral sulfinyl compounds and the development of a stimulant drug Adrafinil which was used to treat narcolepsy and other sleep disorders. As Modafinil, was discovered to be the active metabolite of Adrafinil and did not contain the OH group on the last amide it was introduced in France in 1994.
Modafinil, under the brand name of Provigil has been marketed in America since 1998 when it was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to begin for narcolepsy and later for other sleep related disorders, even though the Stanford Sleepiness Test Score studies had shown that caffeine and amphetamine were shown to be more effective to promote wakefulness. The drug has been marketed by Cephalon Inc since the leased the rights from Lafon and until 2001 when they bought the company.
In December 2002 Madafinil was approved for UK distribution.
The drug has allegedly been used by athletes as a performance enhancer and it caused controversial in the sporting world due to its stimulant properties leading to it being banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency in August 2004 just before the 2004 Summer Olympics.
