Product Description

Diclofenac is a type of medication known as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug NSAIDs used to reduce pain and inflammation in a wide range of conditions. It was firstly marketed under the name of Voltarol.

Diclofenac is used to block the action of a substance in the body called cyclo-oxygenase (COX). This substance is involved in the production of chemicals some of which are known prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are produced in response to an injury or certain diseases or conditions and they cause swellings, inflammation and pain. The medication Diclofenac works by blocking the production of prostaglandins and so reducing the inflammation and the pain.

Diclofenac can be used to relieve inflammation and pain associated with in a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, osteoarthritis, acute gout, ankylosing spondylitis, backache, painful conditions due to accidents sprains, strains, dislocations, fractures, post-natal pain, pain as a result of surgical procedures, muscle pain, and dental pain.

Diclofenac comes in two types: Diclofenac potassium and Diclofenac sodium. The difference being that potassium form is more easily absorbed by the body than its sodium counterpart, it is generally used in emergency situations when quick pain relief is required and prolonged action is needed in order to reduce the inflammation.
