How Does Alli Work?

Alli contains the active ingredient Orlistat, which is a type of medicine, called a lipase inhibitor and is used for the treatment of weight loss.

Orlistat works by attaching itself to some of the body’s natural enzymes that break down fat, it works on the digestive system to stop about a quarter of the fat being absorbed. The fat passes out of the body through your bowel movements. It should be noted that there could be a number of diet related side effects from taking this medication and that eating a lower fat diet can help manage these effects.

Alli taken along with a low fat diet can help in loosing a further one pound for every two pound of body weight that you lose.

How to Take Alli

Alli should be taken three times a day, during or about an hour after each meal.

Alli is available in a capsule or a chewable tablet. The capsules should be swallowed whole with water. The chewable tablet does not require water. For the chewable type of this medication, the maximum number of tablets allowed per day is three.

If when following the Alli program you miss a meal or eat a fat-free meal, you should not take the medication. If taking any multivitamins they must be taken before bedtime in order to help the body absorb Vitamins A, E, D, and K more effectively.
